Over 80% of our cotton garments sold last year were made using certified organic cotton.

Organic cotton is a fabric celebrated for its many benefits for the wearer and the environment. Renowned for its breathability and softness, the cotton fabric is perfect for those seeking both comfort and quality, which is why it's become such a firm favourite in our community. Our cotton varies in thickness, warmth and strength depending on the season: from cosy long jersey sets in autumn/winter, to lightweight cheesecloth and elegant poplin sets in spring/summer.

Why do we use certified organic cotton?

Using organic cotton for our certified products ensures the fibres are processed, manufactured, and labelled in a way that aligns with strict ecological and social guidelines. It guarantees the percentage of organic cotton in every garment, ensures workers' rights are protected, conditions are safe, wastewater is monitored, and dyes arelow-impact. This commitment to more natural textile production has roots in the organic movement of the 1970s, which sought to create healthier and more environmentally responsible textile practices.

Organic cotton farming

Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or genetically modified seed stock and relies on natural methods like crop rotation and composting. Organic fertilisers and techniques such as intercropping -growing different crops together - are also used to prevent soil erosion and retain moisture. The organic approach removes the reliance on toxic chemicals that conventional farming practices depend on.

The process

  1. After harvesting, the cotton buds are first cleaned. The fibres are then separated from the seeds through a process called ginning, before being spun into yarn.
  2. Our organic cotton is either knitted or woven - woven cotton provides breathability in warmer months, while knitted cotton offers stretch and year-round comfort.
  3. To achieve its irresistibly soft texture, our organic cotton undergoes a peaching process, gently brushing the surface to raise fine fibres.

Our GOTS certification

GOTS - the Global Organic Textile Standard - is the leading standard for textiles made from organic fibres worldwide. It defines internationally recognised requirements for certified organic raw materials through to environmentally and socially responsible processing and manufacturing, ensuring we commit to the highest levels of environmental and social standards.

We are proud to be certified to GOTS by Control Union and are independently audited each year to ensure adherence to the Standard. Look out for the GOTS logo and our licence number on our products.
