As a brand, we're always looking at ways to improve our products, including the materials we work with. Modal has been part of our collections since Chelsea Peers began, and we're excited to share that we've updated this to TENCEL™ Modal - produced by Lenzing AG using a resource-efficient, closed-loop process that recaptures and reuses the water and solvents involved in production.
The benefits
TENCEL™ Modal fibres support long-lasting softness, making them a favourite choice for high-quality garments.
Derived from the natural raw material, wood, the fibres are certified with the EU Ecolabel for environmental excellence*. They also support a natural dry feeling through moisture control, keeping you cool and comfortable whatever the season.

The process
Resource efficiency
TENCEL™ Modal fibre production processes are continuously refined to maximise resource efficiency and minimise environmental impact. Beechwood pulp is transformed into fibres through a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents to minimise waste. Carbon emissions and water consumption of TENCEL™ fibres are at least 50% lower compared to generic modal fibres, according to Higg MSI***.
The wood used as raw material for all TENCEL™ Modal fibres is sourced from certified (FSC® or PEFC*) or controlled wood sources, in line with the stringent Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy.
For its highly responsible sourcing practices, helping to protect ancient and endangered forests, Lenzing has been recognised as one of the best-performing companies worldwide in Canopy's Hot Button Report 2023.
