The Best Shorelines
There are plenty of beaches interwoven with scenic walks, amusements and eateries. Sandown is great for families thanks to its clean beach and pleasure pier. For a more panoramic option, head to Ryde, famed for its spacious shoreline and low tide that goes out for half a mile. Ryde is a delight for everyone, from dog walkers to kite surfers. Finally, test the surf at Compton Bay, where the swells reach 5ft.Fun Activities
History buffs of all ages will love Cowes. The area is home to two castles built by Henry VIII, alongside Osborne House, once Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s winter escape. Over in Newport, the island’s capital, treat kids to a few hours at Monkey Haven, a sanctuary for 13 primate species.
Foodies can also sample local seafood and classic dishes in the ever-quaint Bembridge village.
But that’s not all. Hikers will fall in love with Shanklin, littered with footpaths, coastal views and 150 varieties of wild plants — there’s even a waterfall within the chine. Those looking to push their hiking limits should check out the Isle of Wight Challenge, which takes place every year. Beaches — where do we begin? If you plan to hire a car, we suggest beach hopping throughout the day. Locals love the unspoiled shores of Cala Torta, and once you see the idyllic blue shoreline, you’ll understand why. Alternatively, the inviting cove of Cala Deià is a favourite with creative types. And Platja de Alcúdia is a top choice for families due to its spacious, clean beach and close vicinity to shower facilities and restaurants. Finally, for a rural location with the finest white sand, head to Es Trenc, also called the ‘virgin’ beach.
Fun Activities
Take a trip to the Instagram-worthy town of Sóller and hitch a traditional tram ride to Palma. While in the vibrant capital, pick up souvenirs in the shopping district and pass by the iconic Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca. We also suggest visiting the spectacular Cuevas del Drach, an extensive cave system. Cameras at the ready for the boat ride across the enchanting underground lake.The dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range that runs through the island is a firm favourite with hikers and cyclists alike. So if you’re feeling energetic, head to one of the many bicycle rental shops in Palma and clock up some miles peddling through the unforgettable landscape.
Finally, be sure to sample the mouth-watering Mallorcan cuisine. Famous dishes include Tumbet, a traditional veggie meal, Coca Mallorquina, a crisp flatbread topped with tomato and seasonings, and Ensaimada pastries for dessert.

Perhaps topping the beach list is Isla Holbox, north of Cancun. The bohemian beach town is perfect for sampling sunshine, cocktails and the Caribbean Sea while easing into the sleepy island life. Alternatively, head to Playa Delfines in Cancun for its panoramic views minus the high-rise hotels. Finally, the breathtaking is Lake Bacalar is a must-see. The 42 km freshwater lake is famed for its piercing turquoise appearance and picturesque boardwalks and swings for the ultimate lounging experience.Fun Activities
As soon as you arrive in Mexico, you'll hear about cenotes (pronounced "cen-no-tes"). These deep and refreshing natural sinkholes puncture the landscape in their thousands. Some of the best spots include Dos Ojos and Calavera in Tulum and Cenotes Azul in Bacalar.The Mayan civilisation flourished until 900 AD, and many protected ruins remain. Dubbed the 'Walled City' and overlooking the ocean, Tulum Archaeological Zone is a must-see before taking a dip, while Cobá, located between two impressive lagoons, is the largest pyramid in the state. You can also arrange day trips to Chichén Itzá and Uxmal in the Yucatan, two of the most famous Mexican pyramids.
We bet you'll be ravenous after all that sightseeing. Luckily, Quintana Roo is famous for its cuisine that combines pre-Hispanic and Spanish ingredients. Local favourites include Mole, Papadzules, a style of enchiladas, and Tamales, a traditional corn dough dish filled with meat, cheese and beans. Finish your day by pulling on your boldest beach co-ord and sampling the nightlife. Top tip: bypass busy Cancun and head to the more chilled Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
